An Appeal for Your Sponsorship

Gentlemen and Fellow Lions,

Lions Club of Chembur is one of the most prominent and pioneering Lions Club in India and is part of the Lions District 323-A which comprises of 75 Clubs of International Association of Lions Clubs, spreading from the suburbs of Mumbai to the rural areas of Raigad and Alibaug and Karjat.

Lions Club of Chembur enters into its 53 year of existence this year and once again rededicates itself to the Lions Motto – WE SERVE.

Through the last 52 years the Lions Club of Chembur has been serving the underprivileged and has already carved out a niche for itself in the society by undertaking various projects in Medical Healthcare, Women’s upliftment and Infrastructure that have helped in contributing to the improvement and development and empowerment of the people .

Our Permanent Medical and Healthcare projects provide highly subsidised medical treatment and follow-up services for almost 60000 patients each year.

Our Mission of Mercy project offers timely assistance to about 300 patients suffering form Cancer and critical ailments each Year and also guides them towards other charitable institutions to make up the funds required .

Our Balwadi Children’s Welfare Centre equips trains and grooms 125 needy children each year and encourages the poor to ensure that their children go to School and ensures that they receive proper pre- school grooming.

Our efforts over the last 52 years have been successful mainly because of the tremendous support from several Individuals and Organisations who also cared for the deserving and needy.

In the Current Lionistic Year (July 2011 to July 2012I) I would like all our members to make a redoubled effort to reach out to all the Community leaders and the Corporate Houses to help enable us to raise the level of our services by providing us Financial Assistance or Medical Equipment or Computers to aid us in our educational initiative.

All donations to the Club are exempt from Tax under Sectio 80/G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

We serve mainly Chembur, a suburb of Mumbai City Maharashtra, India, and seek to address the requirements of both, the needy in particular and society at large. Our projects are thus accordingly designed.

Our Clinic and Eye Care Centre while providing service at a very affordable cost to the needy also provides quality treatment, which has won the confidence of many the residents in the area who avail its services for this reason and have generously contributed by way of donations.

Our Mission of Mercy projects have helped bring costly Medicare which cannot be provided at our Clinic to those who would not have been able to normally afford them.

The Crematorium Beautification Project seeks to assuage the pain of the bereaved by providing them facilities at a place they would rather not be, but the inevitability of a visit where is an absolute. By improving the environment and facilities at the crematorium we hope to help all members of society irrespective of their status in society.

Our Child Welfare, Balwadi, Quest, Leadership and Education projects seek to both, bring education to the needy children and enhance the quality of education for all.

The Book Bank, Blood Donation, Medical Check-up, Cancer Detection, Sight First drives and projects, all seek to spread an awareness on these subjects and harness the available resources to be available to one and all.

The Lioness committee supplements the activities of the Lions Clubs, and addresses various social causes, through the efforts of very capable ladies in our society.

Activities

Ongoing Projects

Clinic Committee :- Our Medical Center

The Lion Kalgutkar Medical Center and Eye care Center is our first permanent project, and on the average is treating about 5,000 patients every month for the past year, under the able stewardship of the various Clinic Chairmen, has carved out a niche for itself in this North Eastern Suburb of Mumbai, through service to the people at subsidized rates.

It caters to the various needs of the patients with its up-to date facilities for X-ray, Sonography, Pathology, Dental, Ophthalmic, general Medicine and other medical services. It is manned by a team of 25 visiting doctors providing the healing touch.

The Center has set up a state-of-art operation Theatre for Eye ailments which is put to optimum use.

Mission of Mercy

Projects:- This Committee under the Chairmanship of Lion Vinod Kapur was specially formed to provide assistance to various persons for relief from all over India, seeking financial aid heart ,kidney and other major surgeries. The Committee interviews local patients, verifies the medical papers and recommends the financial assistance thereby ensuring that only the most needy derive the benefit. Over 300 patients benefit from this programe every year.

Child welfare and Balwadi

Projects:- Extending its activity in education, the club recognizing the impact of the high cost of pre primary education has started the Balwadi, from which, children from the neighbouring slum aged between 3 and 5 years, who would normally have been unable to go to school, benefit from this Programe. One administrator and two teachers provide the basic lessons to about 100 / 150 children. The children are also provided with uniforms, school bags and are fed daily with biscuits/fruits. They are also taken on an educational tour once a year.

Lion Ramdev Book Bank

Projects:-In its endeavor to assist the needy students in the locality, the Lions Club of Chembur has started a Book Bank which was set up about 25 years ago and subsequently named it after one of its former Presidents in appreciation of his contribution to the club and the society by his work. Today, the Book Bank provides text books to school students and Undergraduates in Medical and Engineering fields. Every year now about 500 students benefit from this activity.

Other need based activities.

Projects:- In addition to the permanent projects the Club conducts other need based project activities for the benefit of the society at large, to mitigate their sufferings. Some of the activities are listed below.

· Free Eye Check-up camps are conducted

· Cataract Operations are performed.

· Tricycles / Wheel chairs / Telephone Booths are provided to the disabled / blind to earn their livelihood.

· Scholarships are granted to students.

· Water coolers are installed at vantage points to help people quench their thirst.

· Safety equipment for schools and public institutions are provided for fire fighting etc.
